This exposes the gray Iron metal, which can then react

Fe (s) + 2 HCl (aq) ---> FeCl2 (aq) + H2 (g)

It is the Hydrogen gas that you see as bubbles

There is no more iron (iii) oxide to react when the metal becomes grey and

the reaction will stop. The Fe2O3 would be the limiting reagent.

rust is iron oxide. the hcl combines with the iron oxide

causing the rust to go away and leaving grey metal

it is a reducing agent and since rust is like iron
Paplu
oxide(oxidizing) it just counters it, i guess that is why Hcl removes

Because it combines with the rust making a iron chloride
